Simple instructions for starting a new page
From MapModeling
These are instructions for starting a new page.
Think of this as writing the Big Book of MAP. We are developing the chapters, the sections, the sub-sections. We are inserting the pages in the book as we go. The software is smart and keeps building the table of contents as long as headings as in Cheatsheet for Fast Editting.
mediawiki has instructions for creating a new page. They are not always the easiest to read, and this is simply a restatement of the information there. If you want them - mediawiki instructions for starting a new page.
Intuitively, it is best to have pages that are formally linked to the main document, or the appropriate chapter, sections, or sub-section. Unlinked pages are hard to find!
Our initial experience is that section headings should NOT also be a link. Both links and headings are able to be editted, but they are independent. Changing one does not change the other!
Once you are editting, say, the chapter where you want to add a page, type the name of the page, highlight it, and then click the "internal link" button which should be at the top left of the edit box once you are editting. It's the one with the "Ab." Then use the "Save Page" button below. You should see your new page name in the Chapter. Follow that link and it will tell you to just start typing. That's it. If that page already exists, then either edit that page, or come up with a different name.
There are a number of other ways to make a new page. If you are on, for example, the Main Page, then there will be a URL at the top of the browser, i.e., "http://mapmodeling.org:16080/wiki/index.php/Main_Page" . Just replace "Main_Page" with the name of the page that you want to start. It will again offer you the opportunity to "just start typing." Another way is to use the search box, which should be sitting over on the left. If you search for a non-existent page, then you will get the opportunity to make the page. In both of these cases, you will have to add a link to, for example, the Main_Page, if you want other people to know about it.
